A Week of STEM Inspiration at Peaslake Free School
In February our STEM week was an exciting and inspiring few days for the children.
From chemistry to engineering, our pupils have had the chance to meet experts in their field and take part in hands-on activities that sparked their curiosity and imagination.
Monday: A Visit from Chemist Vitaly Khutoryanskiy
We kicked off the week with a fascinating visit from chemist Vitaly Khutoryanskiy. Vitaly shared his research on using flatworms, daphnia, and caterpillars and testing medicines. The children were captivated by his work that he shared.

Tuesday: Exploring the Wonders of Trees with Amy Dickinson
On Tuesday, Amy Dickinson took the children outside to explore the amazing world of trees. Amy taught the students how to identify different trees by their bark and leaves, helping them understand how the planet works in such a clever and interconnected way. The children loved this outdoor activity, discovering the beauty and complexity of nature right in their school grounds.
Friday: Engineering Fun with Sarah Garland
The week ended on a high note with Sarah Garland and her team of inspiring engineers, who helped the students build their very own self-powered LEGO vehicles. The children worked together to build, and test their vehicles in the playground. It was a thrilling afternoon filled with creativity, teamwork, and a lot of fun as the children saw their designs come to life.
STEM week has been a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in exciting and interactive ways. We’re grateful to all our visitors for inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers!
